By subscribing to the basic principles of the International Rural Reconstruction, GRITS-Nepal was renamed and officially registered as Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN). Since then, RRN has grown to become the country’s fastest-growing NGO, executing various development programs and serving wide geographical areas and populations.
RRN has been working with the poor and marginalized people in rural Nepal since its inception and has been an unrelenting force for empowerment for the people, focusing on dealing with their basic needs, supporting livelihood development, and building local institutions among communities. Embracing a rights-based approach to development, RRN has played a significant role in empowering rural communities and contributing to their socio-economic reconstruction.
RRN strives to shape a society that is just, equitable, peaceful, and prosperous through social, economic, and political empowerment of the poor. Its mission extends to creating an enabling environment for the rural poor, particularly disadvantaged groups such as rural women, peasants, landless individuals, and other disadvantaged and socially oppressed strata of society. Therefore, besides implementing grassroots community development programs, RRN is also actively engaged in advocacy, lobbying, and networking, at the local, national, and international levels to protect and promote human rights and social justice.
In Nepal’s post-conflict context, RRN positioned itself as an advocate for conflict transformation initiatives by focusing on institutionalizing democracy and peacebuilding through reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reconciliation – the RRR process. RRN considers the following key aspects as its strategy to ensure success throughout this process:
