Appeal for Humanitarian Assistance for flood and
landslides victims
September 11, 2006
RRN has been actively involved in relief
and rehabilitation support to the victims of natural disasters
such as floods and landslides since its establishment in Nepal.
It came into existence in 1989, and at first had addressed
the sufferings of the displaced people due to devastating
floods in rural Chitawan by helping for their rehabilitation
and reconstruction. Recently, RRN has been mobilizing several
volunteers and sizeable amount of resources to help the victims
of devastating floods and landslides in mid western districts
of Nepal. A total of 1,129 affected families of Achham; Bardiya
and Banke districts have already received food and non-food
assistances from RRN. The relief assistance is being distributed
at present, also.
Meanwhile, the incessant rainfall of Chitawan,
Nawalparasi, Tanahu and Makwanpur districts of central Nepal,
has claimed lives of six people, with hundreds of houses damaged.
The worst case was recorded in Kabilas VDC where houses of
55 families were completely swept by huge landslides, forcing
them to be displaced. RRN is reaching out there today with
emergency relief support of food and non-food items worth
NRs. 250,000.00. It has already mobilized volunteers in other
parts of the disaster hit areas to asses the situation so
that necessary assistance could be availed as early as possible.
We have received information that there
is a great need of urgent response to meet the emergency needs
of increasing numbers of victims in the region. In this context,
RRN appeals for all well-wishers, funding partners, volunteer
organizations, I/NGOs and benevolent individuals to extend
their cooperation to assist for the livelihood of the victims
of this disaster. In order to facilitate support initiative,
RRN has opened a bank account with Standard Chartered Bank.
Therefore, RRN requests all interested parties to deposit
their contribution in the following Bank account. Non- cash
assistance is also considered for this support. Please kindly
