RRN's Initiatives in Managing the Recent Disaster in Nepal

Assessment taking place Result of Assesment Assistance Provided Till Date Other Resources Potentially Available
Sunsari, Jhapa, Siraha, Saptari, Mahottari RRN completed its assessment in Banke and Bardiya districts and assessment of Sunsari, Jhapa, Siraha, Saptari and Mahottari districts are underway. 46 sites of 22 VDCs were visited in Bardiya. RRN has been working in close coordination with Nepal Red Cross Society, UN, District Disaster Relief Committee(DDRC), including other concerned national and international agencies in regional level and in district level in Banke and Bardiya districts and District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC) in Jhapa, Sunsari, Siraha and Saptari districts. RRN is working to available additional resource as relief supports for the flood victims and planning to provide such supports for additional 1,200 affected HHs based on the further assessment of needs.
  No. of HHs destroyed in Banke: Fully Damaged HHs - 380 Partially Damaged HHs- 702 No. of HHs destroyed in Bardiya Fully Damaged HHs - 111 Partially Damaged HHs- 915 RRN has distributed food and relief materials (Blanket, Tarpaulin, clothes and plastic mattress) since July 30, 2007. In Banke, it has provided relief food support to 228 HHs to the most affected families of Banke- Bageshwori, Odarpur, Khajura, Sohanpur and ward no. 5 of Nepalgunj Municipality Non-food and items (Blanket- 1400pc, Tarpaulin-700pc, clothes-4200 meters and plastic mattress-500pc, rice 3000 Kilog gram, pulses 1000 Kilo gram) worth NRs.2, 600,000.00 and some temporary flood control structures in JJhapa. The relief materials being distributed from 3 September 2007 to the flood affected families in the following districts Sunsari-150 families, Siraha -125 families, Saptari- 150 families, Mahottari- 300 families. This is being supported by German Agro Action- Germany , Euro 30,000.00
  Apart from this RRN has made assessment on the damage of School Buildings, Community Buildings, Irrigation Canals, Culverts, Road, Check Dams, Cultivable Land. The data on these is available with RRN Similarly in Bardiya RRN has provided non-food relief materials to 235 HHS with set of Tarpaulin, blanket, saris, cottoon pieces, mattresses, cooking uttensils, etc. 60 HHs have been supported with food and non food items in Surkhet district. Provided both food and non-food items 90 HHS in Jhapa district. Rehabilitation works ( River check dam, gabion wire, stone and construction works) worth NRs. 3,200,000.00 in Banke and Bardiya for 500 HHs
    RRN is closely working both for assessment and distribution of relief materials (both food and non food items) in Suansari, Jhapa, Siraha and Saptari . Caritas Austria has provided Rs. 860,000 to RRN for the relief and rehabilitation supports in Bardiya district.
    Relief materials were handed over to District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC) Saptari adequate for 200 HHs, DDRC Sunsari adequate for 200HHs, DDRC Jhapa adequate for 58 HHs and DDRC Siraha adequate for 200HHs respectively. RRN is planning to provide food and non-food items to 250 HHs in Bardiya, in coordination with other organizations. RRN is planning to provide rehabilitation supports for the flood victims in Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Saptari and Bardiya. The estimated contribution is Euro 100,000.00 ( one hundred thousands) from German Agro Action
