Civil Society Forum on Peace, Development
and Foreign Aid in Nepal held

A civil society forum on peace,
development and foreign aid was organized in Kathmandu on
14-15 February 2008 by a consortium of leading civil society
organizations, associations, and federations which was coordinated
by the NGO Federation of Nepal. The forum was participated
by a diverse groups of civil society representatives from
more than 55 districts to discuss the issues and concerns
vis-a-vis peace, development and foreign aid. Largely, voices
of the poor and marginalized groups - dalits, janajatis, women,
madhesis, youths, differently-abled persons, including people
from remote Nepal, peasants, the working class and the like-
were heard and given the platform to raise their concerns.
More than 2,000 people participated in the two-day deliberations,
calling upon the Government and the development partners to
pay heed to their concerns and thus set national priorities
based on their needs and priorities. More>>

CZOP
organises demonstration at Mandala
CZOP organised a symbolic Demonstration
programme for one hour at Shanti Mandala yesterday, 7 Feb
07 requesting the agitating groups in Madesh, major eight
political parties and government for not to make any negative
impact on children from the political demonstration in Madesh
and to request to address the demands of the Madesh immediately.
During the program, child rights/human rights
activists from different organizations and journalist participated
in the programme. Kundan Aryal, Ex-chairperson of CZOP welcomed
the participants and highlighted the objective of the demonstration.
Participants stand silence for one minute in the remembrance
of four children who lost their live during the agitation.
Chairperson of CZOP, Dr. Rishi Raj Adhikari made the press
statement public. It is attached herewith. Then all the participants
wearing jacket with CZOP logo and placard gathered around
the Mandala and symbolically requested all the parties to
respect children as zones of peace. The message on the placards
were: Do not use children in demonstration, Stop impacting
the children from the demonstration, stop making the demonstration
more violent and bloody, Pay special attention for the protection
of children during the demonstration, Do not obstruct the
regular school operation and exam system, respect children
as zones of peace, address the demands of Madesh immediately.
The main message in the banner was:
Request to Nepal government, major political
parties and agitating parties/groups in Madesh to respect
children as zones of peace; Stop making the demonstration
more violent and bloody, Stop impacting the children from
the demonstration, address the demands of Madesh immediately.
The request letter to concerned parties:
Madeshi Janaadhikar Forum, Major political parties, and Nepal
Government are also sent today.
